PVD Coated Stainless Steel Sheet

Spark Steel offers PVD Coated Stainless Steel Sheets for architectural, interior, commercial, decorative, and design applications. These sheets combine the performance characteristics of stainless steel with a decorative PVD surface, providing a wide range of colours and finishes for modern architectural and interior projects.

PVD, or Physical Vapor Deposition, is a surface coating technology used to deposit a thin coating onto stainless steel under controlled conditions. The process can produce decorative metallic colours and surface effects while retaining the underlying stainless steel substrate.

PVD coated stainless steel sheets are commonly selected for applications such as elevator interiors, wall panels, feature walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, reception areas, hotels, restaurants, retail interiors, and architectural detailing.

Spark Steel can supply PVD stainless steel products in different grades, sizes, thicknesses, colours, and surface finishes depending on the product and project requirements.

Spark Steel is Mumbai based manufacturer and stockist of PVD coated stainless steel sheets. Over the years, we've built a steady supply chain for architects, interior designers, OEMs, contractors, and traders, both within India and for export markets. Our PVD coated SS sheets bring together two things: the toughness of austenitic stainless steel and a Physical Vapour Deposition coating that holds colour far longer than paint or electroplating ever could. The finish doesn't just look premium, it actually holds up.

Need just one sheet for a custom interior job? Or a full mill-run for a commercial project? We keep ready stock of Grade 304 and 316 PVD sheets in standard sizes and thicknesses. Custom dimensions, colours, and surface finishes can be arranged on order.

What is PVD Coated Stainless Steel?

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a vacuum coating process. Inside a high vacuum chamber, a target material (usually titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride, or chromium nitride) is vaporised and deposited onto the steel surface, literally one atom at a time. The coating ends up being 0.17 µm to 3.0 µm thick, and unlike paint or plating, it doesn't just sit on the surface. It bonds into the steel itself at a metallurgical level.

Here's what that means practically:

  • Scratch resistance: the coating is harder than the base steel itself
  • Chemical resistance: sweat, moisture, mild acids, cleaning agents — none of it affects the surface
  • Colour stability: UV resistant, no fading or yellowing even after 10+ years outdoors
  • Clean process: no heavy metals, no hazardous waste; far greener than electroplating
  • Tight tolerances: the coating is thin enough that it doesn't change the sheet's dimensions

What Is a PVD Coated Stainless Steel Sheet?

A PVD Coated Stainless Steel Sheet is a stainless steel sheet with a decorative coating applied using the Physical Vapor Deposition process. During PVD coating, material is deposited onto the stainless steel surface in a controlled vacuum environment. The process can produce decorative colours such as gold, black, bronze, rose gold, copper, champagne, and other shades, depending on the coating system.

The result is a coloured and decorative stainless steel surface suitable for architectural and interior design applications. PVD coating is different from conventional painting because the colour is produced through a specialised coating process rather than simply applying conventional liquid paint to the surface.

How Does PVD Coating Work?

The PVD coating process generally involves several controlled stages.

  1. Stainless Steel Surface Preparation — The stainless steel sheet is cleaned and prepared before coating. Proper surface preparation is important for achieving a consistent finished surface.
  2. Vacuum Environment — The coating process takes place inside a controlled vacuum chamber.
  3. Vaporisation of Coating Material — The selected coating material is converted into a vapour or plasma state under controlled conditions.
  4. Deposition — The coating material is deposited onto the prepared stainless steel surface, forming a thin coating layer.
  5. Finished Surface — The coated stainless steel sheet is inspected for the required colour, surface appearance, and finish before being supplied for the intended application.

The exact PVD process parameters and coating system depend on the product, equipment, coating material, and required finish.

PVD Plated Stainless Steel

The term PVD Plated Stainless Steel is sometimes used to describe stainless steel products that have received a PVD decorative coating. Technically, PVD coated stainless steel is the more appropriate terminology for products produced using Physical Vapor Deposition. PVD coating can provide stainless steel with decorative metallic colours while maintaining the underlying characteristics of the stainless steel substrate.

When selecting a PVD product, buyers should consider the stainless steel grade, coating specification, colour, surface finish, thickness, intended application, and environmental exposure.
